About the Instructor

As a yoga instructor, I endeavor to make your experience personal and accessible. As a student in my classes, you will receive plenty of personal attention and I will take the time to work with you so that, together, we can find the postures and stretches perfect for your individual and unique body.

Before coming to the Malletts Bay School as a para educator, I taught yoga full-time from 2002 until 2013. I became certified in the Hatha Yoga tradition with the Ananda Yoga Ashram, CA, in 1998. At that time I was an eighth-grade teacher at the City School in Saint Albans, VT and had a great time trying out my newly acquired yoga teaching skills on eager and willing middle school students and teachers! For years I held yoga clubs and afterschool classes for the staff and children at the school. In time, sharing the art of yoga became such a passion that I gave up classroom teaching in favor of teaching yoga full time.

I have taught yoga with students from birth to 92 years of age. I have enjoyed teaching: Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga for Depression, Posture Workshops, Chakra Yoga and Chair-Supported Yoga. Since 2009 I have Directed my own Yoga Camps for Children: "Kids Creative Yoga Camps" and "Girls Spirit Creative Yoga-n-Dance Camps," fostering self-expression and positive self-image in Vermonters ages 3-15 years.

October Wellness

October Wellness

Walk to School Day
On October 7th, Malletts Bay School students walked, rode, and rolled to school for National Walk to School Day. This event began in 1997 by the Partnership for a Walkable America, and gained international status in 2000 with participation in Canada and the UK. For almost two decades both Walk and Bike to School days has promoted safe walking communities and routes to school. For more information, visit the UNC Highway Safety Research Center's websites: SafeRoutes and PBIC. Take a look at some of the great photos taken that morning by MBS Art student teacher, Kara Murphy. Great work, MBS students and staff!

Pink Out in the Park
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Saturday, October 10th, CSD faculty, staff, students, and parents joined hundreds of community members in a 5k along the bike path and neighborhoods in Colchester to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society's event Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. PPS's Meg Hershman warmed everyone up with some fun Jazzercise despite the brisk autumn morning temperatures!

Colchester Community Wellness Fair
In it's third year, the Colchester Community Wellness Fair took place October 23rd in the high school gymnasium. This year it was hosted by members of the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Several local businesses and organizations provided information tables, as well as free exercise demonstrations and food samples. A free harvest dinner was provided by Steve Davis and members of CSD Food Services. Following dinner was a marionette show by the puppeteer group No Strings Marionette Company.

Seventh-grader Catherine Jones hosted a table for her Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign. Jones explained FUTP60 is a national organization partnered with the NFL and Dairy Counsel promoting healthier eating and exercising 60 minutes per day. She is currently working to create a middle school team at CMS. With this team, they can earn points to be entered to have an NFL player visit CMS to talk about the importance of exercise and healthy eating choices. Last year Jones was able to offer healthy taste tests in the cafeteria, and has been featured in blog posts for the FUTP60 blog 'Huddle.' For more information contact Jones at

Dr. Alicia Jacobs from the UVM Medical Center helped start the fair three years ago. This year she hosted a table featuring some unexpected VT heirloom apples and information on healthy snacks. This year members from the Albany College of Pharmacy Health Sciences helped with organization and fair promotion. Second-year pharmacy student, Sahil Kamboj from Toronto, is excited about his path to becoming a pharmacist because it is a "very trusted position," and "having a licensed pharmacist available when you pick up a prescription reduces the amount of time and effort it would take having to making a prescription consultation at a doctor's office." Great success to everyone involved!
